Holderfield takes part in child session
Warren County Family Court Judge Catherine Rice Holderfield took part in the 10th Child Abuse and Neglect Institute: The Role of the Judge, June 4-8 at the University of Nevada in Reno.
Holderfield is a member of the National Council of Juvenile and Family Court Judges, which offered the conference.
“This was an intense conference on child abuse and protection, attachment and bonding of children, recognizing child abuse injuries, substance abuse and permanency planning,” Holderfield said.
She also attended a session on dealing with the effects a parent's use of methamphetamine has on the child.
Logan facility logs 3 million safe hours
Logan Aluminum personnel reached a safety milestone July 12 by working 3 million man-hours without a lost-time accident.
That represents more than a year and half of operation at the Logan County site.
Logan personnel use Behavioral Based Safety as a primary risk identification tool. Eighty-nine percent of Logan's personnel participate in the process by completing observations that identify risks. The company operates with an integrated environmental and safety management program and holds certifications in various management systems.
The Logan County facility is jointly owned by ARCO Aluminum and Novelis and makes aluminum sheet products.
Regional job rair and exhibition coming
The Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and the Southern Kentucky Society of Human Resource Management are hosting an event to showcase businesses and job opportunities in the southcentral Kentucky region.
This event, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sept. 14, is a collaboration between Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren counties, and is at the Carroll Knicely Conference Center.
Register as an event sponsor to recruit prospective employees, advertise job opportunities, meet other local business owners and gain valuable exposure. The exhibition will also feature health screenings and workshops. Booth sponsorship is from $75 to $150.

Whitney is Midas sales leader of 2006
Bowling Green Midas dealer Philip Whitney was recently named South Central Regional Sales Leader of the Year by Midas.
Whitney's shop at 603 U.S. 31-W By-Pass recorded the highest sales volume of any Midas shop in the region during 2005.
Midas is one of the world's largest providers of automotive service, offering maintenance, brakes, exhaust, tires and suspension services at more than 2,600 franchised, company-owned and licensed Midas shops in 19 countries, including nearly 1,800 in the U.S. and Canada.
Federal-Mogul Corp. gets safety honor
Last month Gov. Ernie Fletcher presented a 2006 Governor's Safety and Health Award to Federal-Mogul Corp., whose employees have worked more than 1.3 million hours without a lost-time injury or illness at the company's brake manufacturing facility in Glasgow.
The award is given to employers and employees who together have achieved a specified streak of hours worked without a lost-time episode - one in which an employee misses a full day of work, or who have gone one year without a recordable injury or illness.
Federal-Mogul, which makes brakes for commercial vehicles and has 225 employees at its Glasgow plant, last had a lost-time episode Jan. 8, 2003.
Six officers given honors at ceremony
Six Bowling Green Police Department officers were given Kentucky Law Enforcement Council certificates recognizing their level of career achievement.
Six recently received various career development certificates, which are earned based upon the participant's level of training, education and experience.
The council has awarded to date 800 Career Development certificates to officers and telecommunicators.
The officers receiving the certificates and the area recognized for:
- Lt. Col. Jerry Wells - law enforcement supervisor, law enforcement manager and law enforcement executive.
- Maj. Quentin Hughes - law enforcement supervisor.
- Sgt. James Hyde - law enforcement chief executive.
- Retired Sgt. Randy Schocke - law enforcement supervisor.
- Master Police Officer David Dunn - law enforcement officer investigator.
- Master Police Officer Jerry Corbitt - intermediate law enforcement officer.
Capt. Kevin Wiles graduated June 9 from the 225th session of the FBI National Academy Program in Quantico, Va.
Wiles was one of 246 law enforcement officers, men and women from all states (except Delaware) - the District of Columbia, 26 international countries, four military organizations and two federal civilian organizations - who graduated from this session.
The FBI National Academy Program is 10 weeks of advanced investigative, management and fitness training for selected officers with proven records as professionals within their respective agencies.
FBI Academy instructional staff, special agents and other staff members holding advanced degrees provide training for the program.
SCORE meetings set for every Tuesday
The Bowling Green chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executives offers confidential business counseling from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays at the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce, 526 State St.
Eight counselors, with a wide variety of talent and business backgrounds, have a combined 300 years of experience to help potential and existing business owners.
Frank Lederer organizes the group and has more than 55 years of experience in marketing and selling capital goods equipment to industrial plants, commercial businesses and municipalities.

Hitcents hires three new employees
Hitcents.com, which creates solutions in Web design, software programming/development and technology support, recently hired three sales executives: Ian Ruanto, Courey McCubbin and Scott Lewis.
Ruanto graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor of Science degree in computer information systems. He is originally from Cookeville, Tenn.
McCubbin graduated from Western Kentucky University in May with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and is originally from Franklin. She will work as a sales executive for Hitcents focusing on Web design, Eyeon home automation and eCommerce.
Scott Lewis is a graduate of Western Kentucky University and has a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and allied language arts. He previously lived in Elizabethtown. He worked most recently as the online specialist for the Daily News.

Local bankers named MVPs in Cincinnati
Integra bankers Julie Huntsman, Andrea Stackpole, Ski Bender and Letti Oldham received MVP awards at a quarterly banquet in Cincinnati.
Huntsman is a teller for Integra's Bowling Green central location.
Stackpole is a relationship banker for Integra's Campbell Lane banking center. Bender is a financial adviser for Integra's Bowling Green offices. Oldham is a cash management representative for Integra's Bowling Green offices.
Integra employs about 800 people through its Kentucky, Indiana, Ilinois and Ohio locations.
Burch named Dickies Worker of the Year
Lavoy Burch, 54, of Bowling Green was recently named Dickies American Worker of the Year for Kentucky. The award is an annual competition honoring hard-working Americans.
A mechanic and owner of his own custom car shop, Burch was nominated by his wife, Debbie.
Burch works on classic cars and hot rods at Lavoy's Toys, which he opened six years ago after owning his own car repair business for 28 years.
Burch received $200 in Dickies merchandise, including a custom made American Worker of the Year jacket.
State winners and five national finalists were selected from among thousands of e-mailed and audio entries collected.
The Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co. began in 1922 and is based in Fort Worth, Texas, along with several subsidiaries in North America, Canada, and Europe.
Cooper Carpets now in Morgantown
Shop at Home Carpets recently welcomed Cooper Carpets of Morgantown to the growing Shop at Home Carpets family. Wade McCoy owner of Shop at Home Carpets reached a licensing agreement for the name, slogan and logo to be used by Jimmy Cooper, owner of Cooper Carpet's in Butler, Grayson, Ohio, Daviess and Muhlenberg counties.
Cooper Carpets will be changing its name to Cooper's Shop at Home Carpets.
