MORGANTOWN — Benjamin Orville Merritt, 88, of Blomington, Ind., died May 22, 2008, at Bloomington Regional Hospital.
The Kelso, Ark., native was born June 13, 1919. He was a member of North Central Church of Christ and a World War II veteran who served in Augusta, Maine and the Aleutian Islands. After graduating from radio and television training in Louisville, he and his wife, Doris Embry, moved to Bloomington. He was employed at the Radio Corporation of America plant from 1952 until 1982, when he happily retired. He enjoyed baseball, fishing and a cold Coke on a hot afternoon. He was a son of the late James Merritt and Leiana White Merritt.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. today at Smith Funeral Home, with burial in Lawson Embry Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Doris E. Embry Merritt; three children, Sandy Merritt and Larry Merritt, both of Cocanut Creek, Fla., and Teresa Wright of Bloomington, Ind.; four grandchildren, Jessica Merritt, Jordan Merritt, Aaron Wright and Andrew Wright; and several nieces and nephews.
