The Warren County Board of Education agreed Thursday to make changes to its natatorium during its board meeting.

Sherman-Carter-Barnhart’s Kenny Stanfield, the architect for the pool project, showed the board a rendering of the redesigned natatorium after the county’s design review board had an issue with a strip of metal that ran alongside the top of the 12,000-square-foot building. The redesign has brick replacing the metal strip.

“We’re doing this as a courtesy to show we are addressing their concerns,” Stanfield said.

Stanfield said having to redesign a portion of the building, being constructed adjacent to the school system’s central office on Lovers Lane, has not stopped the project in any way. A building permit for the project has been approved.

The pool is slated to be completed by Dec. 1.

During a special called meeting in May, the school board approved the contractor for the pool. The bid was awarded to Venture Contracting of Glasgow for $4.8 million.

The board also heard an update Thursday on the Warren middle/high school project being built at Rich Pond and Nashville roads. Construction is under way at the site, with the geothermal heating field being put in and the walls starting to go up.

“A lot of earth work is done,” Stanfield said.

The middle/high school is slated to open in August 2010. Total construction cost will be about $70 million.

“(This building will be) quickly going up over the summer months. We’re really making progress,” Stanfield said.
