More than 600 people are expected to celebrate the National Corvette Museum’s 14th anniversary today through Saturday.
“We’re really excited to celebrate another great year,” said Bobbie Jo Lee, the National Corvette Museum marketing and communications manager. “We’ve got a lot of volunteers coming from as far away as Texas and Connecticut.”
The event will include a variety of activities. A free concert by the Jackie Fox Band will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the museum’s amphitheater. The public can bring lawn chairs, blankets and coolers to the concert, but no alcohol is allowed.
Tours and special displays will be at the museum, which will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the celebration. Admission to the museum is $8 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6-16 and $20 for families.
“There will be unique displays that they may not be able to see again,” Lee said. “There will be great road tours to other area attractions. We like visitors to see what else is available to them.”
Some displays will include vintage Corvettes, including the Callaway Sledgehammer and a 1969 race car from two men who raced in the 1960s. National Corvette Museum lifetime member Paul Smith will be available to talk about and show his Corvette, which was the overall winner on Speed TV’s “Pinks All Out.”
There will also be a raffle for a 2009 Victory Red Coupe featuring the 3LT package, chrome wheels, glass top, automatic transmission and black interior. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online before 4 p.m. Saturday or by calling the museum at 781-7973 before 5 p.m. Saturday. The winner will be announced at 7 p.m. at the amphitheater.
“We always give away a new Corvette (during the anniversary),” Lee said.
