OWENSBORO — Trilby Whobrey Ball, 80, died Aug. 26, 2008, at her home, surrounded by family and friends.
The Semiway native was born March 26, 1928. She was a member of First Baptist Church since 1964 and had been a member of the New Ladies Sunday School Class, who were incredibly supportive and caring during the past months and years of her illness. Trib graduated from Calhoun High School in 1946. She married her husband, Eddie, in November 1947 when they were attending Western Kentucky University. She was a dedicated and loyal supporter of her husband during college and later as a medical student at University of Louisville. She and her family moved back to her home area in Owensboro and resided there since 1964. She was very active in the Republican Party of Daviess County and Kentucky. She was chairperson of the 21-county Second District for four years, beginning in May 1968. She was co-chair of the Daviess County Louie B. Nunn for Governor Campaign when he was elected governor of Kentucky from 1968-72. She was a member of the State Central Committee for more than 20 years and was three times a delegate or guest at the Republican National Convention. She was a member of the Daviess County Medical Auxiliary/Alliance since 1964 and president in 1968. Various boards include the H.L. Neblett Center, Ellis Park Foundation and Alma Randolph Foundation, all of which serve underprivileged children. Since 2005, she had been a member of the Kentucky State Legislative Ethics Commission. Trilby loved boating, basketball and partying with friends and family. She was an avid fan and supporter of bluegrass music. She was a daughter of the late Marion Whobrey and Della Smith Whobrey. She was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Whobrey; a sister, Ruth Southard; six half brothers, Howard and Preston Miller and Hobart, Everett, James and Woodson Whobrey; and a half sister, Hallie Whobrey.
Funeral is at 1 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, with burial in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery at Beech Grove. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday at Glenn Funeral Home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to First Baptist Church dedicated to the ministries of the New Ladies or Maverick Sunday School classes or to the H.L. Neblett Community Center of Owensboro.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 61 years, Dr. Coy “Eddie” Ball; two children, Bonnie Harris and her husband, Jay, of Atlanta and David Ball and his wife, Christy, of Bowling Green; three grandchildren, Jack, Cal and Keeley Harris of Atlanta; a sister, Sylvia Gross of Evansville, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews.
