HOPKINSVILLE — Lula Mary Slaughter Shanklin, 86, of Elkton died at 11 p.m. Aug. 26, 2008, at her residence.
The Christian County native was a former employee of Houchens Market. She was a member of Todd County Homemakers Club and the P.T.A. organization. She was a daughter of the late James Slaughter and Bertha Mae Burrus Slaughter and the wife of the late Robert Emanuel Shanklin. She was preceded in death by a son, James “Ricky” Shanklin.
Funeral is at 2 p.m. Saturday at Little Union Baptist Church in Elkton, where she was a member, a member of the Mothers Board and the Missionary Society and a past choir member, with burial in Elkton Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Gamble Funeral Home.
Survivors include four sons, the Rev. Robert L. Shanklin and his wife, Cynthia, of Huntsville, Ala., the Rev. Ross M. Shanklin and his wife, Sharon, of Lavergne, Tenn., the Rev. Wilbert Shanklin and his wife, Cathy, of Dayton, Ohio, and Donald R. Shanklin of Bowling Green; three daughters, Loretta Shanklin Ealom and her husband, Rossneau, of Elkton, George Alice Owens and her husband, Douglas, of Washington, D.C., and Nannie Williams of Nashville; a sister, Mollie L. Jessup of Fairview; 31 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
