The Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra will kick off its Variety In Programming Series with “The Graduate.”
“We’re doing a mix of classical and popular music under one theme,” BGCO marketing director Heather Higgins said. “We’re going back to school doing the graduate theme. The composers were inspired by academia.”
The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Living Hope Baptist Church. BGCO music director and conductor Jeff Reed will discuss the music to be performed in his “Coffee Chat with the Maestro,” sponsored by Barnes & Noble Booksellers, at 6:45 p.m. Tickets range from $5 to $24. The orchestra is offering VIP Series subscriptions, beginning at $80 for adults and $25 for children under 12. Subscribers receive a 25 percent discount off single-ticket prices.
Sponsored by Integra Bank and attorney Debra Broz, the concert will feature Brahms “Academic Festival Overture,” Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1,” Strauss’ “Selections from Graduation Ball,” and Simon & Garfunkel selections from the film, “The Graduate.”
“(Board member) Erin Biggers asked if we had ever done music around the theme of graduation. She mentioned Simon & Garfunkel,” Reed said. “I began to think about how much classical music deals with academia. It enabled me to come up with a typical concert for us - part classical music and part pop music.”
Other concerts in the VIP Series include the following:
All VIP series concerts are held at 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Living Hope Baptist Church. A “Coffee Chat with the Maestro” will precede each concert at 6:45 p.m.
