The Healthy Weight Kids Coalition of Southern Kentucky - a coalition of health-related professionals and organizations with the goal of preventing and treating the serious problem of obesity in children - will have its fourth annual Kid’s Try-Athlon and Fun Run at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Russell Sims Aquatic Park.
The event is designed to get kids to try the event, even if they are not accustomed to participating in organized fitness events. Each child will receive a ribbon, healthy snack and a T-shirt. Top finishers in each age group will receive a medal.
Other activities will include demonstrations by a representative of Shaolin Kung-Fu Center and a bike giveaway by Hughes and Coleman.
This event is funded by the Institute of Medicine. Healthy Weight Kids Coalition is partnering with local agencies, including the Greater Bowling Green Sprint Triathlon, WKU ALIVE Center, Barren River District Health Department, Bowling Green Parks and Recreation, Bowling Green City Schools, Warren County Public Schools, Bowling Green League of Bicyclists and Bowling Green Road Runners.
