Art

An art exhibit featuring artist Alice Gatewood Waddell will open today at the Porter Cafe at the Warren County Public Library.

The Houchens Gallery will feature the paintings of Jennifer Bruton Sims and ceramics and glass of Kelly McKibbon and Cortney Boyd. The paintings of Brenda Brown are in the mezzanine gallery. The exhibits are through Friday.

VSA arts of Kentucky presents “Love in Any Language,” part of the BG International Festival Gallery Walk, featuring the work of artists affiliated with VSA arts of Kentucky through Oct. 31. Artists will create artistic interpretations of the 2008 Bowling Green International Festival Theme, “Love In Any Language.” The gallery is at 515 E. 10th Ave.

The Gallery At 916 will present “All You Need is Love: An Extreme Bird’s Eye View,” part of the BG International Festival Gallery Walk, featuring the work of John Warren Oakes and Haley Young, through Sept. 30. The reception will feature British goodies and libations from England, where both artists worked and studied for a time. The gallery is at 916 State St.

Artworks has issued a call to artists for Fine Arts Fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at Lost River Cave and Valley. The fair will showcase fine original art in all mediums. Rental for a 10 x 10 booth space with no electricity is $50. This fair is only for fine art and craft. Only original, one of a kind, or very limited edition works are welcome. The Presbyterian Church at 10th Avenue and State Street will have a church-wide photographers exhibit through Sept. 19. The church will have an exhibition featuring artwork by youth of the church beginning with an opening reception from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 28. It will run through Nov. 21. Exhibits may be viewed in the Fellowship Hall, 10th Avenue entrance, weekdays during work hours.

The Bowling Green International Gallery Walk will be Sept. 19. The walk will feature various galleries with different art forms from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Most of the exhibitions will be up through the end of the month. Peg Truman’s paintings are on display at the Cancer Center at The Medical Center through Monday.

The Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall is exhibiting the work of Myra Renee Dwyer in the classroom through September.

Green River Museum in Woodbury will be open from noon until 4 p.m. Saturdays through September. The museum features exhibits from around Butler County and the Green River.

The LifeSkills Run for Autism will be Saturday at the Western Kentucky University Clinical Education Complex. An 8k Wheelchair Race will begin at 7:55 a.m., 8k Run at 8 a.m. and 1-mile Family Walk at 9 a.m. There will be free games and entertainment. Western Kentucky University’s department of music will present guitarist Stanley Yates in a free public recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center Recital Hall.

Ten pieces from the original 1881 fountain from Fountain Square Park will be on display through November in the Kentucky Library and Museum.

Warren County Sights and Sounds, an exhibit presenting the history and culture of Bowling Green and Warren County in photographs and film, will be in Western Kentucky University’s Kentucky Library & Museum. The exhibit is the result of a two-year joint project during which about 150 photographs and 45 feet of moving film related to Bowling Green and Warren County were collected. Sponsors of the project and exhibit are The Landmark Association, The Bowling Green/Warren County Historic Preservation Board, Insight Communications and The Kentucky Library & Museum. Sights and Sounds of Warren County will be in the Museum’s Garden Gallery and continues through Dec. 7.

The Factory at Cave City will feature The Moon Woods Band from 8 p.m. to midnight on the first Saturday of each month. The facility is on U.S. 31-W, just north of the Ky. 90 intersection across from Dollar General.

Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Walker will lead the first-ever Mayor’s Bike Ride through Bowling Green. The ride will start at Kereiakes Park at 10 a.m. Sept. 20. The hour-long free ride will travel through city neighborhoods on low traffic streets and will be appropriate for families, children and people of all ages and skill levels. Mammoth Cave National Park is joining its Caveland tourism partners to offer special discounts during September. Mammoth Passage tour tickets are $2 for ages 13 through adult, 50 cents for ages 6-12, and ages 5 and under are free. The discount will apply to all park visitors who choose the Mammoth Passage tour, a three-quarter mile, 1.5 hour guided tour. It is offered at 9:15 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. daily.

This weekend is the first of two weekends of live thoroughbred racing at Kentucky Downs. Six or more races per day are scheduled for Saturday, Monday and Tuesday. Kentucky Downs patrons will also be able to place bets on televised races at other tracks. Admission to the grandstand and clubhouse will be free. Opening day festivities will include live music and children’s activities.
