Western Kentucky’s volleyball team dropped its first match of the season Friday, falling to Miami (Ohio) 3-1 (25-23,21-25,21-25,21-25) in its second contest of the Lady Topper Invitational at E.A. Diddle Arena.

WKU, which got off to a fast start, could not respond to the Redhawks after losing games two and three.

In game one, the Lady Toppers (8-1) and the Redhawks stayed tied almost the entire game before WKU pulled away and took the game off a kill by senior Megan Argabright and an assist by senior Julia Noe. Both the Lady Toppers and the Redhawks finished with a .257 hitting percentage and WKU finished with 13 kills.

In game two, WKU took an early 2-0 lead but Miami charged back, outscoring WKU 25-19 to tie the match 1-1.

Set three looked much like set two as Miami finished with a .292 hitting percentage. The Lady Toppers finished with only a .111 hitting percentage and 13 kills off of 44 total attacks.

The final game also belonged to the Redhawks as Miami had its biggest offensive performance of the night, hitting .455 and holding WKU to only a .279 hitting percentage.

In the fourth game, WKU had a match-high 20 kills but could not rally at the end.

WKU was led by Argabright. The Louisville native finished with a match-high 16 kills, a .419 hitting percentage and two blocks. Senior Kelly Hofmeyer posted a kill, three assists, an ace, and 17 digs in the loss.

Earlier Friday, WKU defeated Furman 3-0 (25-16,25-9,25-22).

WKU continues play in the Lady Topper Invitational at 1 p.m. today against Valparaiso before concluding action against Tennessee Tech at 7 p.m.
