| David W. Smith/Daily News Lynn Robertson, gallery director at the Capitol Arts Center, hangs some of the international film posters owned by Leon Vincent on Tuesday in the Capitol’s Mezzanine Gallery. It is just one of many stops on this weekend’s Gallery Walk, an event leading up to next weekend’s International Festival at Circus Square Park. |

In a week, Circus Square Park will be transformed into an international bazaar, with many nationalities coming to share their cultures at the annual International Festival.
But before that happens, people throughout Warren County will be able to catch a glimpse of foreign culture through the many art exhibits showcased all around Bowling Green during the International Festival Gallery Walk. The walk, which starts Friday and runs until Sept. 27, allows artists to show off their work and meet the public.
Melissa Walelay, co-owner of The Gallery at 916, said they will be showcasing the works of local artists John Warren Oaks and Haley Young as they present All You Need is Love: An Extreme Bird’s Eye View.
“We are very excited, and looking forward to this year’s walk,” Walelay said. “We just love doing the gallery walk, and we love the artists we are showcasing.”
Marsha Heidbrink, owner of Memphis Marsha’s, will be hosting the exhibition “A Slice Of Italy.” She will show paintings, jewelry and notecards inspired by her 2007 trip to Italy.
While other local artists, like Heidbrink, will have their works on display, Nashville artist Landry Butler will bring a one-of-a-kind perspective with iLove.
Butler’s latest exhibit uses video and small mixed media to encourage “a response of optimistic perspective and active compassion.” The work continues themes of positive change and self-actualization.
“Life can be difficult and uncomfortable, but we all want to make the world a better place. While we may differ in what ‘a better place’ means, we share that common goal,” Butler said in a news release.
Butler’s exhibit will be showcased at The Place, at 431 Park Row.
Capitol Arts, in the Mezzanine Gallery, will host Love Those Movies ... Around the World, featuring the work of Leon Vincent. The exhibit will feature a collection of old movie posters - mostly U.S. movies shown in other parts of the world, said Lynn Robertson, gallery director. The unique posters are in different languages, she said.
“It’ll be very interesting, I think,” she said.
As part of the weeklong event, receptions will take place from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at all places exhibits are shown.
At 916, refreshments will continue the British theme with British goodies, Walelay said. She said both Oaks and Young had studied extensively in England, so she and O’Keefe - co-owner of 916 - thought the theme would be fun.
There will be pub-style foods, she said, everything from pickled eggs and salmon sandwiches to ginger beer - “sort of a merry ol’ England.”
Also a painting by John Warren Oaks will be given away, Walelay said.
Robertson said during the reception at the Capitol Arts building Friday they’ll be serving popcorn and Cokes to complement the movie-themed exhibit.
“It’ll be fun,” she said.
