Johnny Dwight Roberts, 47, of Bowling Green was indicted by a Warren County grand jury Wednesday on charges of second-degree manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence, possession of an open alcohol container in a motor vehicle and first-degree persistent felony offender.
Roberts was driving a vehicle that struck a scooter being driven by Marricus Cox, 21, of Bowling Green on Veterans Memorial Lane on Sept. 21, according to a Bowling Green Police Department report. Cox died the next day at the University of Louisville Hospital.
The tampering charge stems from the alleged throwing of beer cans from the vehicle after the collision, said Chris Cohron, commonwealth’s attorney for Warren County.
Roberts was convicted of a felony in 2007 and has other prior felonies on his record, Cohron said.
He could face up to 15 years on the manslaughter and tampering charges, Cohron said. The persistent felony offender charge could increase the sentence to 20 years.
Arrest — James Junior Cline, 49, 320 W. 14th Ave., was charged with theft by unlawful taking more then $300 at 3:27 p.m. Wednesday at Kohl’s at 2321 Gary Farms Blvd., according to a city police report.
He was seen on security video concealing a $450 jacket under his coat and attempting to leave the store, according to the report.
Cline is at the Warren County Regional Jail on $1,500 bond.
Burglary — A television and laptop computer valued at $1,499 were stolen between 11:45 a.m. and 1:38 p.m. Tuesday in the 2500 block of Jersey Court, according to a city police report. A door at the residence had been kicked open causing $500 in damage.
Burglary — An unknown number of Lorcet and Xanax tablets were stolen between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Sherwood Drive, according to a city police report.
Indictment — Robert Deshawn Boyd Jr., 29, 602 Dixie Highway, Horse Cave, was indicted Wednesday on a charge of possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine by a U.S. District Court grand jury in Louisville.
The indictment alleges that on Oct. 31 in Warren County, Boyd possessed with the intent to distribute five grams or more of crack cocaine, according to a report from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Louisville. The alleged incident occurred while Boyd was out on bond for a drug trafficking charge in Hart County Circuit Court. A search warrant executed on the Boyd’s vehicle uncovered about 26 grams of crack cocaine, with an estimated street value of $2,600, according to the report.
Boyd could face up to 40 years in prison and a $2 million fine and supervised release for up to life.
The case was investigated by the Bowling Green-Warren County Drug Task Force.
