Art

Reservations are being taken for the Children’s Art Workshop, which will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 13 at Shaker Museum at South Union. The workshop is led by Board of Directors member and art educator Melissa Rose Craven. Children will weave a small, Shaker-type basket and create a spirit drawing. Shakers created various spirit drawings when they received spiritual visions. All supplies are provided. Parents or guardians must accompany the child during the workshop. Children in first and second grades will participate in the workshop from 10 a.m. to noon. Children in third through fifth grades will participate in the workshop from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The cost of the workshop is $30 per child. Reservations are required by Friday at (270) 542-7167.

The New Works exhibit of Leslie Reuther and Matt Tullis opened Tuesday in the Houchens Gallery of the Capitol Arts Center. The exhibit will run through June 15, with an artist’s reception from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 12. Jennifer Fritsch’s latest drawings will be featured in the Mezzanine Gallery through June 15. The artist will be in attendance at the Gallery Hop reception from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 5.

The photography of Lauren Brandt will be featured at the Bob Kirby Branch of the Warren County Library from June 1-29. Brandt’s work has won several blue ribbons in both the SoKy Fair and the Kentucky State Fair. At the Main Library, the art of Matt Simone will be exhibited, including his interpretation of various literary figures, including Emily Dickinson and Sylvia Plath.

The Presbyterian Church is featuring an art exhibit through June 26 titled One Name-Two Visions, showcasing the works of local artists Claude and Lynn Robertson. A reception for the artists will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 5. The Robertson Exhibit may be seen in the Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall Gallery, 10th Avenue entrance, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays.

VSA arts’ statewide exhibition runs through June 27 at the gallery, 515 E. 10th Ave. The exhibition will showcase a variety of subjects and techniques. An opening reception will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. June 5.

The Arts Committee of the Glasgow-Barren County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor “Brushes With History” through July 7 at the chamber. Twenty-seven artists have work in this show. All entries are brushwork and represent the artist’s interpretation of “Brushes With History.” A reception for the artists will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. June 9 at the chamber.

A Teacher-Student Art Exhibition will be at Memphis Marsha’s through Saturday. The gallery, at 524 E. 12th Ave., is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays or by appointment by calling 843-1726.

Neil Peterie’s “Hill Country” paintings are being shown in the classroom of the Health & Wellness Center at Greenwood Mall through June.

A fundraiser for Relay for Life will be from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. Friday at Tidballs. Admission is $5 a person. There will be performances by 00 The Rabbit, October Son, Shane Ownby & More.

The Factory at Cave City will feature The Moon Woods Band from 8 p.m. to midnight on the first Saturday of each month. The facility is on U.S. 31-W, just north of the Ky. 90 intersection across from Dollar General.

Saturday Night Karaoke with Wayne Hallet will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturdays at Burgers On The Square in Franklin. The smoke-free facility is for the entire family, with the bar for adults only after 9 p.m. For more information, go to www.burgersonthesquare. com.

Orchestra Kentucky Star finals will be at 8 p.m. Friday at Capitol Arts Center. Tickets are $25.

Downtown Redevelopment Authority’s Concerts in the Park Series, sponsored by BB&T bank, begins Wednesday. The concert from noon to 1 p.m. will feature the Lost River Cave Band.

Barren River Lake State Resort Park will have an open mic jam session the first Tuesday of each month. All musicians are invited to participate in the Tuesday Tunes Jam Sessions from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. inside the Louie B. Nunn Lodge and The Driftwood Restaurant. Dinner hours are 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The “All Aboard” series will be at the Old L&N Depot at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, with Larry Bryant presenting “The RailRoad in the Cold War.” Bryant will talk of his experiences in the desert of Utah between 1961-76. Bryant served with the Radar Bomb Scoring unit that assisted in Air Force training for B52 Bomber Fleet.

The Warren County Public Library invites kids to participate in a Shutterbug Contest. Kids are asked to take a picture of someone reading in a creative place. Bring the photo to the Warren County Public Library children’s department and be entered to win a special prize.
