Bowling Green and Warren County will be filled with people wandering the streets in search of art during the 13th annual World’s Greatest Studio Tour and Art Sale this weekend.

From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, people will have the opportunity to meet artists and see studio spaces and new works, said Karen Genter, a painter on the tour and publicity coordinator for the event.

“This is for those interested in the cultural scene in Bowling Green,” she said. “A lot of it takes place in downtown Bowling Green as well as the county.”

Genter said the tour and sale will include 21 different locations, with about 40 artists participating. Some locations will have only one artist showing pieces, while others will have five or six artists showcasing pieces, she said.

The artwork will range from traditional to contemporary approaches, and will feature original ceramics, collages, drawings, handmade prints, jewelry, paintings, photographs, quilts, stained glass, sculpture, silk paintings and weavings.

“I think we have extremely talented people here in Bowling Green. We have people who’ve shown nationally and internationally, and Bowling Green is very lucky to have such a wide variety of talented artists,” Genter said. “By going to the different locations, people get a wide variety rather than when you go to just one showing.”

Maps will be available at the Capitol Arts Center and other studio locations along the tour route, such as Spencer’s Coffeehouse, Crocker Law Offices, The Gallery at 916, Ellis Place and Studio G. Participants can pick their own routes and spend as much time as they like at the various locations.

Signs will be posted through the area to guide visitors and refreshments will be at many of the sites.

While the event is free, pieces on display will be available for purchase, Genter said. A portion of sales will benefit the local visual arts community, she said. Past recipients include the Bowling Green Public Library, Capitol Arts Alliance, LifeSkills, Western Kentucky University and the local chapter of the American Red Cross.

“This is a time for people to go around and munch a bit, talk to people and enjoy art,” Genter said.
