The Alvaton Volunteer Fire Department is getting a new fire truck nine months after an Alvaton firefighter was injured and a fire truck wrecked in a near head-on collision.
The Warren County Fiscal Court approved the lease/purchase of a Pierce Commercial Contender for $258,885 at its Monday meeting.
The fire department will pay for the truck. However, the Internal Revenue Service required Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon to sign off on the deal before the financing company could move forward with issuing the loan.
The court also approved buying a 2010 Toyota Tundra for $16,900 from Gary Force Toyota. The truck will be used by the City-County Planning Commission and is replacing two older vehicles, which will be sold.
In addition to being used by the planning commission, Operation P.R.I.D.E. will use the truck as part of its new code enforcement responsibilities.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources will stock Three Springs Lake with catfish and trout this spring as part of its Fishing in Neighborhoods program. The court approved the agreement, which requires a 25 percent in-kind match from the county.
Fishing regulations for the lake will be more strict than those statewide because of its enrollment in the program. Wildlife resources will post signs around the lake with the restrictions.
