A Monroe County man who drowned Saturday night in a boating accident on Barren River has been identified.

Shane Green drowned after the boat he and Daniel Cherry were operating hit a log while the men were night fishing, according to Allen County Emergency Management Director Gary Petty.

Both men were ejected from the boat after it hit the log. A nearby boater came to help and put Cherry in his boat. They could not find Green.

Allen County Emergency Management, Allen County Sheriff's Department, Scottsville-Allen County Rescue Squad, Allen County Constables, Scottsville-Allen County Fire Department, Cedar Springs Volunteer Fire Department Nos. 1 and 2 and Kentucky State Fish and Wildlife all responded, Petty said.

Authorities found Green at about 12:45 a.m. today.

Cherry was not injured. Petty said it did not appear that either of the men were wearing life jackets. Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be a factor.
