The Hilltopper Astronomy Club and faculty from Western Kentucky University’s Department of Physics & Astronomy are hosting a program and viewing of Asteroid 4179 Toutatis at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the lobby of Thompson Complex Central Wing.
The peanut-shaped, 2.5 miles-by-1 mile asteroid will pass within about 4.3 million miles of Earth. The asteroid is named for the Celtic god Toutatis. Asteroid 4179 Toutatis’ nonencounter with Earth occurs on Anti-Doomsday Day, declared for 12/12/12.
