A 22-year-old Bowling Green man was trapped inside a cave at about 2 p.m. this afternoon after attempting to cross a body of water inside the cave near Cameron Park Apartments on Industrial Drive in Bowling Green.

The man, who declined to give his name to the Daily News, became fatigued after being in the water inside the cave and told his friend, Brian Ahlers, 20, of Bowling Green, that he couldn't make it back across the body of water due to the strong current and due to his fatigued state.

"He just got wet, cold and fatigued and needed help," said Bowling Green Fire Department Assistant Chief Donnie Frye, who was just feet away from the cave doing technical rescue training with a group of BGFD firefighters.

"He got tired and fatigued," Ahlers said. "He didn't think he could make it."

Ahlers swam back across the 100-foot body of water inside the cave and went across the street from the apartment complex to EMS Services on Industrial Drive to call for help.

Bowling Green firefighters with assistance from Warren County Rescue Department were able to get the man out of the cave. He was then taken to The Medical Center.
