Kentucky State Police believe a recent fire at a Woodburn home was an act of arson meant to conceal a burglary at the residence.

The Woodburn Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire at 3888 Woodburn-Allen Springs Road just after 8 p.m. Thursday and found the fire concentrated at the back entrance, according to a news release from KSP.

Homeowners Melvin and Nora Williams were not at home because they were in the process of moving to another residence, the release said.

The Kentucky State Fire Marshal’s Office found that the fire had multiple points of origin in the house, according to the release.

State police were contacted regarding suspected arson and an investigation indicated the fire was set to hide a burglary at the house, the release said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the KSP or the Kentucky State Arson Task Force at 800-27ARSON. Callers with information that leads to an arrest and conviction can be eligible for an award of up to $1,000 in cash.
