Justin Rivers, 29, of Bowling Green, will continue his journey on “The Voice,” after advancing Tuesday night to next week’s live performances on the NBC singing competition show.

Rivers, who is worship pastor at Crossland Community Church, was pitted against fellow contestant Savannah Berry during the knockout rounds broadcasted Tuesday. Each artist prepared a song of their choice, performing back to back, with only one moving on in the competition. Rivers won the round by singing Miley Cyrus’ “The Climb,” which he said on the broadcast is symbolic of his journey to become a successful music artist. His version of the song is available on iTunes.

After his performance, coach Blake Shelton told him that “you continue to impress.”

Rivers is one of four members from Shelton’s team continuing onto the live performances, which begin at 7 p.m. Monday. During the live part of the competition, votes by viewers determine which artists will continue on the show.

Welcome to the discussion.
