GAMALIEL — Johnny Clyde Ryherd, 92, of Gamaliel, died Jan. 12, 2011, at Monroe County Medical Center in Tompkinsville.

The Monroe County native was born Feb. 23, 1918. He was a retired dairy farmer, a member and deacon of Gamaliel Baptist Church and an Army veteran of World War II. He was united in marriage to Christine Eakle on Nov. 27, 1940. He was a son of the late Edd Lewis Ryherd and Iva Proffitt Ryherd. He was preceded in death by a son, Roy David Ryherd; and a sister, Dean Davis.

Funeral is at 1 p.m. Friday at Strode Funeral Home, Gamaliel chapel, with burial in Gamaliel Cemetery. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Survivors include his wife, Christine Eakle Ryherd; four daughters, Carolyn Dillard and her husband, Bruce, of Akersville, Brenda Wright of Tompkinsville, Wanda Goad and her husband, James, of Rydal, Ga., and Ruthie Duckett and her husband, Frank, of Glasgow; five brothers, Carl Ryherd and James Earl Ryherd, both of Gamaliel, Audie Ryherd of Sullivan, Ill., Dwaine Ryherd of Vandalia, Ohio, and Paul Ryherd of Arthur, Ill.; four sisters, Essie Harlin and Faye Oye, both of Arthur, Ill., Eva Whitis of Avon, Ind., and Wilma O’Banion of Gamaliel; 11 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
