Three area athletes helped their cheerleading club team win a national championship.

Casey VanMeter and Alex Smith of Bowling Green and Trey Baker of Franklin cheer for the Prime Tyme Nighthawks, who won the small senior coed level 5 division at the Opryland Cheer Nationals on Dec. 29-30 in Nashville.

The Nighthawks, based in Hendersonville, Tenn., were also given the grand champion banner after receiving the highest score at the competition. The Nighthawks also received a full-paid bid to The Cheerleading Worlds in April at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla.
