The Daily News learned Monday that Western Kentucky will be a participant in the 2014 NIT Season Tip-Off.

While WKU’s opponents and destination for the tournament are not yet finalized, the Hilltoppers will be a part of a 16-team field that will play at one of four regional sites in November.

It has been previously reported that Georgia, Gonzaga, Minnesota and St. John’s will also be a part of the tournament.

The first and second rounds of the tournament are scheduled for Nov. 17-19. Should the Tops not advance past there, they would play in a consolation round Nov. 24 or 25, possibly at E.A. Diddle Arena.

If WKU were to win its first and second round games, they would advance to the semifinals Nov. 26 at Madison Square Garden in New York. The championship game is scheduled for Nov. 28.

Western Kentucky last played in the NIT Season Tip-Off in 2009, beating Wisconsin-Milwaukee and losing to Louisiana State in Baton Rouge, La. The Tops then beat California State University, Northridge and lost to Indiana State back in Bowling Green.
