The Western Kentucky softball team fell 3-1 at No. 8 Texas on Sunday at Red and Charline McCombs Field in Austin, Texas.
Senior Malorie Sulaski (5-6) went 2 2/3 innings in the circle, giving up three hits, two earned runs and four walks while striking out two. Junior Emily Rousseau came in with two outs in the third to go the rest of the contest, as she allowed two hits and struck out three.
Texas’ Holly Kern (7-3) threw a complete game, giving up three hits and no earned runs.
Texas (35-4) took the lead in the bottom of the third, going up 3-0. After two bases loaded walks brought in the game’s first two runs, a fielding error by WKU (20-13) with two outs allowed the inning’s final score.
Kelly Quarles provided a spark for WKU in the top of the fifth with a single through the left side with one out. Sophomore Shawna Sadler then reached on an error before Karavin Dew reached on another error in the following at-bat to make it 3-1.
WKU returns home Wednesday, hosting Samford for a doubleheader. Sun Belt Conference foe Louisiana-Monroe then visits Bowling Green this weekend for a three-game series.
