A professional horseshoe pitching tournament, which draws world champions past and present from around the country, will be today and Sunday at the Chalybeate Sports Complex in Edmonson County.

Seventeen-time world champion Alan Francis of Ohio will compete in the 40-foot division, along with Brian Simmons of Vermont, a three-time world champion, No. 2-ranked Tom Williams of Michigan, and fifth-ranked Charlie Meredith of Edmonson County.

Meredith said four of the five top pitchers in the world, six current and four past world champs will be at the event, which includes participants from 13 states.

Sue Snyder of Indiana, a past world champion, and Tennessee’s Joan Elmore, the current world champ, will square off with others in the 30-foot division. 

Preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. today, followed by the championships beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.
