One team strengthened its hold on No. 1 while another’s grip slipped in the latest Bowling Green Daily News Area Top 10 prep polls.

Russell County held the top spot in the boys’ poll for the third straight week and was a unanimous selection for the first time.

Barren County jumped two spots to second, with Warren Central holding at third.

Warren East and Clinton County are fourth and fifth. Bowling Green, Russellville, South Warren, Monroe County and Allen County-Scottsville round out the boys’ poll.

In the girls’ poll, the Lady Scotties remained No. 1 despite a loss Friday at Allen County-Scottsville.

Glasgow received five first-place votes to edge the Lady Patriots, who moved up one spot to second. ACS garnered two first-place votes.

Bowling Green, which received four-first place votes, dropped a spot to third. Monroe County received two first-place votes and held at fourth.

Russell County, Franklin-Simpson, Metcalfe County, Todd County Central, Greenwood and Warren Central round out the poll.

The weekly poll includes all teams from Region 4, as well as Butler County and Edmonson County high schools, which are members of Region 3.

The voting panel includes Daily News sports writers Chad Bishop, Micheal Compton and Zach Greenwell; Daily News sports editor Malcolm C. Knox; Chad Young of WKCT 930 AM in Bowling Green; Andrew Dawson and Jeff Woods of WBKO-TV in Bowling Green; James Mooneyhan of WFKN 1220 AM in Franklin; Norm Haney of WBGN 1340 AM in Bowling Green; Joe Brunk of WWKU 1450 AM in Bowling Green; Jay Turner of WCDS 1230 AM in Glasgow; Don Meador of The Citizen-Times in Scottsville; Brandon Phillips of Sporting Times Radio; and Joe Myers of WCLU 1490 AM in Glasgow.

Voting was conducted before Monday’s games.

Thirteen voters participated in this week’s poll.
