Warren County South opened the 11- and 12-year old Little League District 1 tournament Friday with an 8-6 win over Bowling Green East at Franklin’s Jim Roberts Community Park.

Trevor Dennis had three hits, including a grand slam, and pitched four innings with 11 strikeouts.

WC South trailed 2-0 after one inning before taking the lead with four runs in the fourth.

WC South stretched the lead to 8-2 on the Dennis grand slam in the fourth.

BG East scored two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Warren County North 8, Bowling Green West 1,

eight innings

North broke a 1-1 tie with a seven-run eighth inning to take the opening game of pool play.

Jonah Vance gave North a lead with an RBI fielder’s choice in the third, but BG West tied it in the fifth.

The score remained tied until North exploded in the top of the eighth, with Andrew McWhorter knocking in the go-ahead run.

Logan Minton, Matthew Mellencamp, Sheldon Martin and McWhorter combined for eight innings of one-run baseball.

Also Friday, Franklin-Simpson beat Owensboro Southern 7-1, Logan County beat Ohio County 12-1 and East Daviess beat Muhlenberg County 12-1.


Warren County South 14, East Daviess County 4,

five innings

WC South scored in four out of five frames, including a sixth-run fifth, to cruise past Daviess County.

Brady Key went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Maddox Burr was 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Isaac Young went 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI.

Logan Smith had five strikeouts in 31/3 innings, while Carson Cobb recorded the final out with a three-pitch strike out.

Bowling Green East 12,

Ohio County 1,

four innings

Carson Kelley had two hits and pitched two innings, as BG East opened with a convincing win.

BG East broke the game open with a seven-run second that included a grand slam by Dez Wilson.

Jonah Thurman and Braden Wilson tossed one inning each for BG East.

Franklin-Simpson 14,

Warren County North 2

Franklin had 15 hits, including two doubles, a triple and a single by Trey Shanklin.

WC North was held to five hits with Ryan Carter and Gavin Rose each getting an RBI.

Also Friday, Owensboro Southern beat Bowling Green West 16-4.


Warren County South 10, Franklin-Simpson 0

five innings

Mac Ausbrooks had two homers and six RBIs to lead South past Franklin-Simpson. 

South outhit Franklin 14-4.

Muhlenberg County 15

Bowling Green East 5

Tyler Morton earned a double and an RBI to tie it 2-2 in second, but Muhlenberg County scored 13 unanswered for the opening-day victory.

Also Friday, Owensboro Southern beat Warren County North 15-1.
