The 2014 Western Kentucky nonconference football schedule was completed Wednesday as WKU announced it will travel to the University of Illinois on Sept. 6, 2014.

Aside from a trip to Illinois, WKU’s 2014 nonconference slate will include a road contest at Navy on Sept. 27, with home games against Bowling Green and Army on Aug. 28 and Nov. 15, respectively.

“We are excited about the opportunity to travel to Champaign for our program’s first-ever game against the University of Illinois,” WKU athletic director Todd Stewart said through a school-issued release. “Our fans can easily drive to this game, and as we look at our future schedules, our preference will be scheduling nonconference opponents within driving distance for our fans whenever possible. We are having active conversations with a number of potential nonconference opponents for 2015 and beyond and will announce those matchups once they are finalized.”

The meeting will be the first ever between the Hilltoppers and the Illini and will mark the fourth active member of the Big Ten that WKU has faced. It played Wisconsin in 2001, Indiana in 2008 and both Indiana and Nebraska in 2010. WKU is also scheduled to face Indiana on the road in 2015.

Illinois went 2-10 and 0-8 in the Big Ten in 2012.
