Western Kentucky played its second 110-minute game of the season Thursday against Austin Peay and finished with its second tie as the Lady Toppers tied the Lady Governors 1-1 at the WKU Soccer Complex.
Austin Peay (3-0-1) drew first blood in the 61st minute when Tatiana Ariza scored her sixth goal of the season after knifing her way through WKU’s backline.
It didn’t take long for the Lady Toppers (1-1-2) to answer, as sophomore Lauren Moats finished a feed from freshman Christine Gordon just over two minutes later for her second goal of the season. Gordon handled a rebound off Austin Peay goalkeeper Nikki Filippone’s fingertips and dished it to Moats in front of the goal for her first career assist.
After being outshot 16-9 in regulation, WKU dominated the two overtime periods and outshot Austin Peay 6-1 in the extra time. Freshman Shelby Todd had the best look of the extra sessions, firing a low-liner on goal before a nice save from Filippone in the 104th minute.
