It’s never easy to narrow a list of the best movies of the year down to 10.

This year it was pretty much impossible.

There were nearly 40 films I could have been persuaded to put on the final list of 10 (and that’s with some late releases, such as “The Revenant” and “45 Years,” yet to be screened), making the final cut perhaps the most difficult in recent memory. It all added up to a very good year in theaters, with a good mix of small films and successful big budget blockbusters.

There were some lows, but for the most part 2015 was a lot of fun.
