A Dec. 26, 1922, story in the Daily News tells about a very special holiday event in Fountain Square Park.

As a part of the lighting ceremony for the community Christmas tree, local churches and charities decided to help out Bowling Green’s less fortunate. The Elks Lodge provided a turkey dinner, toys and candles to local children; the Capitol Theater provided attendees with a free show. The culmination of the event was a public singing performance, which was followed by many attendees caroling in nearby neighborhoods.
