Black gold in Warren County?

For a short time in the early 20th century, there was an oil boom in the county. On May 10, 1919, it was reported that an oil well “blew itself” on the Jake Moulder farm about 14 miles from the city proper.

A news report noted that this well was the largest ever found in this section of Kentucky. Wildcatters rushed in and exploited these reports as they sought to drill in many areas throughout the region.
