“REGIMENT FLAG. Proposal Comes From Bowling Green to Buy a Handsome One”

This was the title of a short article in the May 1, 1898, Owensboro Messenger-Inquirer newspaper proposing the purchase of a silk flag for the 3rd Kentucky Volunteer Infantry Regiment from western Kentucky, which fought under Colonel T.J. Smith of Bowling Green during the Spanish-American War in 1898.

The price for the flag was between $300 and $350, which is equivalent to more than $6,000 in today’s currency.
