On May 30, 1969, which was Memorial Day, the Park City Daily News ran an article by reporter Larry Wilerson about his interview with Alonzo M. Causey, the oldest living survivor of the Spanish-American War of 1898.

In the interview, Mr. Causey, who was almost 99 years old at the time, talked about his role in the Spanish-American War and how he felt freedom was still worth fighting for. He is buried at Fairview Cemetery.
