About 60 people, including several elected officials, gathered in the Warren County Courthouse Veterans’ Memorial Courtyard early Friday morning to honor several deceased military veterans with a brick-laying ceremony.
“This is a wonderful place, a sacred place,” said Warren County Judge-Executive Mike Buchanon.

Buchanon read the names one by one, giving friends and family time to take pictures with the bricks in between the readings.
The ceremonies happen once a month for as long as the weather allows, usually from April to October.
After the ceremony, the Warren County Fiscal Court met for its regularly scheduled meeting. It approved issuing $1.8 million revenue bonds to help pay for a parking garage in the downtown redevelopment area of Bowling Green.
The Build America Bonds are part of the federal economic stimulus plan, and 45 percent of their repayment is covered by the federal government.
Revenue from leasing a portion of the 505 parking spaces in the garage to Western Kentucky University and other development would cover the rest of the bond payments.
“It’s a pass through,” Buchanon said.

Demolition of houses in preparation for the parking garage on Kentucky Street between 13th and 14th avenues began earlier this week, with construction expected to start in the fall at the very latest.
Travis Spidel, of the Kentucky Transportation Department, outlined the $1.8 million rehabilitation of secondary rural roads to the fiscal court.
Funds are divided between six projects, the largest of which is routine maintenance of 162 miles of roads at a cost of $632,900. Almost five miles of Richardsville Road will be resurfaced for $618,228. Other projects include resurfacing of more than 2.5 miles of Mount Olivet Road and the installation of 2,100 feet of guardrail on Barren River Road near Stump Bluff Road.
The fiscal court authorized a pay increase for the 304 election precinct officers from $100 to $125. This includes pay for attending a training session. Warren County Clerk Dot Owens said she was still looking for precinct officers. Training will be April 27. Anyone wishing to apply should call the clerk’s office at 842-9416.
