The Plaza Theatre in Glasgow had to clear up some confusion after learning that an Indiana record label was promoting a concert at the venue that is not taking place.
Steve Jones, executive director of the Plaza Theatre, said he learned from a patron Thursday that the Facebook page for American Muzick, a music label based in West Lafayette, Ind., was promoting a Nov. 7 concert at the Plaza called The Freedom Festival headlined by label founder and hip-hop artist Ya Boy Big Hollywood.

Several postings on the label’s Facebook page tout the concert as a benefit to raise money for Glasgow’s Boys & Girls Club and for breast cancer research.
Jones, however, said that no such event is taking place and that no one contacted him about renting the Plaza for such an event.
“We had done preliminary talks with the company (about an event), but apparently someone went ahead and posted online that this was taking place,” Jones said Friday. “I contacted the artist who said it was his company and he said it was all a mistake and they would be taking down the site.”
A fraud alert posted on the Plaza’s Web site says that the promoters are encouraging people to purchase $12 tickets to the nonexistent event through PayPal. Jones noted that the Plaza is the only provider of tickets to any event.
“We’ve contacted PayPal to let them know it may be a Web-based phishing account and filed a report with the Glasgow Police Department,” Jones said. “We’re sorry that it happened and if any patrons were thrown off by it. We’ll do everything we can to make sure it never happens again.”
