The Logan County Humane Society board appointed three new officers Thursday and tapped Bowling Green-Warren County Humane Society Director Lorri Hare to serve as a mentor for the Logan County Humane Society animal shelter.

Hare will conduct interviews to find a new director and animal control officer, according to Magistrate Jo Orange, a humane society board member.

Tracy Moser, an adviser to the board who owns RePets in Bowling Green, said Hare attended Thursday’s emergency board meeting to describe the operations at her shelter.

“We decided that she needs to be hiring, look for the right staff and find someone with business sense to be able to run the shelter properly,” Moser said. “I see this as being a little Bowling Green shelter in the future.”

Hare plans to contact a shelter specialist, who will travel to Russellville from Pennsylvania to evaluate the Logan County shelter’s needs and identify priorities to address.

A Daily News investigation revealed a shelter in poor condition, and the board accepted former shelter director Kathy Maddox’s resignation earlier this week.

Orange said the shelter looked much cleaner Wednesday.
