UPDATE: The search for a missing man on Green River ended this morning with the recovery of his body.

Search and rescue teams located the body of Phillip Leedy, 42, of Bowling Green, this morning after he had gone missing on Friday while canoeing the Green River.

The search for a man believed to have drowned Friday in Green River will continue today.

Rescue personnel from several agencies spent Saturday searching the river near the point where Warren, Butler and Edmonson counties converge.

“We have multiple agencies across the region helping,” said Deborah Williams, spokeswoman for the Warren County Rescue Department.

Rescue personnel have used sonar equipment in an effort to locate the missing person.

Rescue personnel were dispatched to Lock 5 at 7:28 p.m. Friday. Three men were fishing off the lock and witnessed a man in a canoe go over the dam. They saw him surface and then surface again about 100 yards from his original location.

Williams said the search would resume this morning, with some agencies beginning their search in the portion of the river that runs through Woodbury.

“We are bringing in additional resources,” Williams said. “There’s a lot of water to cover.”
