Bowling Green - Dr. Paul Parks, 94, of Bowling Green passed away February 11, 2017. He practiced Internal Medicine in Bowling Green from 1958 to 1999 and before that in Richmond, KY, and Tallahassee, FL. A native of Madison County, KY, and one of fourteen children, he was educated at Georgetown College; the University of Mississippi; and the University of Louisville, where he received his medical degree in 1948. He served in the US Navy in WWII and in the Army during the Korean conflict.
He married Phyllis Elam of Lexington, KY, in 1953, and she preceded him in death in 1994. He was an active Christian in churches in Union City, Richmond, and Georgetown, KY; East Point, GA; Tallahassee, FL; and Bowling Green. At First Baptist Church, Bowling Green, he served as Deacon, Sunday School teacher, senior choir member, on building committees and three pastor search committees, and in volunteer work of all types. He was active in his medical organizations, serving as president of the Kentucky Medical Association in 1976-77, and he received its Distinguished Service Award in 1988. He served Georgetown College as a trustee for 34 years, was named Trustee Emeritus in 1999, was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1989, and was inducted into the college's Hall of Fame in 2012.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula (David) Wallace of Maineville, OH; Phoebe (Mike) Jones of Bowling Green; two grandsons, Jonathan (Danielle) Wallace; Nathan (Claire) Wallace; one granddaughter, Emily Jones; one great-grandson, William Wallace; and seven siblings: Ann, Harold, Sue, Lucy, Clay, Mary Lee, and Charles.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 11:00 at First Baptist Church with burial to follow at Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00-7:00 at Johnson-Vaughn-Phelps Funeral Home and on Wednesday beginning at 10:00 at the church.
