Norris E. Cooper, 73, of Bowling Green, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012, at The Medical Center.
The Warren County native was born Sept. 15, 1938, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Billy and David Cooper; his late mother, Lucille Wilkerson Cooper-Galloway; and foster parents Ben and Melvin Catherine White.
Norris was a member and deacon of Forest Park Baptist Church and veteran of the U.S. Army. He was the former owner of Herman Lowe’s Sporting Goods, bus driver for Warren County Schools and bailiff for Warren County Circuit Court. He coached youth sports for more than 29 years and is a member of the Warren County Football Hall of Fame. He was on the Boys Club board of directors and was a charter member of the Warren Central Athletic Club. Norris loved to fish, loved his four grandchildren and one great-grandson, loved his family and their Sunday afternoons together.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Barbara Coley Cooper, two sons, Jim Cooper (Linda) and Ben Cooper (Dana), all of Bowling Green; one sister, Judy Miller of Scottsville; two brothers, Ronnie Cooper (Joyce) and Tommy Cooper, both of Bowling Green; four grandchildren, Brad Cooper (Jennifer) of Bowling Green, Jamie Cooper of Orlando, Fla., Kimberly and Dean Cooper, both of Bowling Green; one great-grandson, Carter Cooper of Bowling Green; Tony Moore, Ted Fields and many others he mentored over the years; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Friday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. at J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church, with burial in Fairview Cemetery No. 2. Arrangements are entrusted to J.C. Kirby & Son Lovers Lane Chapel.
