The Sierra Club Mammoth Cave Group would like to recognize the Bowling Green Daily News, especially Caroline Eggers, for her outstanding reporting on environmental and related issues.
A few examples: Local home winter heating energy savings and the LIHEAP Assistance Program, the TVA's future plans on generating electric power (TVA's IRP in Bowling Green), pollution in our drinking water sources (the Gasper River fish kill) and the importance of Trees in our community (BG Big Tree Project). Many of these reports require not only objective writing and reporting skill, but extensive technical understanding and background knowledge of complex issues.
The importance of reporting news that affects our environment cannot be overemphasized, especially climate change, which poses an existential threat to our lives and future generations. We encourage the BG Daily News and its staff to continue the thorough and objective reporting of these issues.
