Moving headstones is illegal and immoral

I see on TV that Greenville and Versailles are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the guilty parties that tore up graves.

The Clearfork Cemetery in Rockfield was torn up by moving the first row of headstones three feet from the head of the graves. Three of those were my own relatives. The man who did this did it so that he could put his headstone where he wanted it. He did not have permission.

My sister and I tried to get the church leaders to make him put the stones back, but they wouldn’t. We called the county attorney. She said this was a class D felony and the commonwealth’s attorney could take care of it. He never even called the other two men who were on the committee to only level and straighten the stones (not move them).

A lady from Louisville sent me the cemetery laws (KRS 525.115). It reads: “A person is guilty of violating graves when he intentionally removes a headstone or footstone. The court shall order the defendant to restore the cemetery to its original pre-damage condition.” Our county officials have ruled that the stones will not be put back.

Where do you find that we were treated right? You would have to see the graves to know that it is destroyed! The one who did this said if it hadn’t been for two crazy old women, nobody would have said anything. The ministers who I have talked to said if they had been there, the moves would not have been done. There has to be something wrong with our judicial system to let this happen.

God bless America that the laws will be carried out.
