South Warren sophomore pitcher Shelby Nunn was nearly perfect in the Spartans’ 2-0 win over Greenwood on Wednesday at South Warren High School.
Nunn took a perfect game into the seventh before allowing an infield hit, settling for a one-hitter against the District 14 rival.
The right-hander struck out eight and finished the shutout in an efficient 79 pitches – 57 for strikes.
“It’s pretty awesome, but I couldn’t help but be a little bit disappointed that I couldn’t get that perfect game,” Nunn said. “I worked inside and I threw a couple of change-ups that weren’t working, but I feel like my outside fastball really got them off balance.”
The victory was the third in a row for South Warren, which returns to action at 9 p.m. Friday against Livingston Central.
