Hot Rods sweep Fort Wayne

The Bowling Green Hot Rods completed a three-game sweep Friday with a 4-0 win at Fort Wayne (Ind.).

Pitchers Jordan Harrison and Stone Speer combined on a four-hit shutout, while Justin O’Conner belted his team-leading 13th home run of the season. The win assures the Hot Rods a third straight winning season.

Bowling Green (70-52, 32-22 second half) broke through in the seventh when Leonardo Reginatto singled and scored on an RBI double on Marty Gantt.

The Hot Rods added three insurance runs in the ninth. O’Conner led off the inning with a homer to left. After Reginatto walked, Gantt delivered his second RBI double of the night. Gantt later scored on an Andrew Toles sacrifice fly.

Harrison went 6 1/3 innings to earn the win, improving to 4-2 on the season. The left-hander struck out five, walking one and allowing three hits. Stone Speer went the final 2 2/3 innings, allowing one hit, to earn his second save of the season.

Gantt and Reginatto finished with two hits each.

The Hot Rods head to South Bend (Ind.) to open a four-game series starting at 6:05 p.m. CDT today. The Hot Rods starter is to be determined, with right-hander Jesse Darrah (10-8, 4.07) scheduled to start for South Bend.
