Z’Nyah Owens performed like a seasoned veteran during Saturday’s Class 3A, Region 2 Track and Field Championship meet at Greenwood High School.

The Bowling Green sophomore scored a first-place finish in the 100-yard dash with a time of 12.65 seconds and added a runner-up finish in the 200 meters despite hot and gusty conditions Saturday. Still, Owens welcomed the sunshine after a few rainy meets leading up to regionals.

“The last couple of meets have been terrible,” Owens said. “It’s a blessing to have a nice, beautiful day like this to run.”

Owens also formed part of Bowling Green’s quartet of Grace Klusty, Erica Smith and Bailee Woods that won both the 4x100-meter relay (50.49) and 4x200-meter relay (1:47.15).

“Just having fun with my teammates is really all that matters,” Owens said.
