Seitzer, Markel spark Hot Rods

Cameron Seitzer homered and pitcher Parker Markel continued his strong second half, helping the Bowling Green Hot Rods win 6-2 Thursday at Great Lakes (Mich.).
Markel improved to 9-5 overall, including 7-0 in his last nine starts, and allowed one run on five hits with six strikeouts. It was the fifth straight quality start for Markel, and the sixth in the last nine outings.

Bowling Green (70-52, 32-20 second half) jumped out to a 1-0 lead with an unearned run in the third. Seitzer added a solo homer, his third of the season in the fourth.
After Great Lakes (57-65, 23-29) scored in the bottom of the fourth, BG answered with an RBI single by Jeff Malm to make the score 3-1.
The Loons trimmed the deficit to one on a solo homer by Joe Winker, before the Hot Rods added three insurance runs in the ninth, including a sacrifice fly by Seitzer.
Bowling Green finished with seven hits, including two from Jake Hager. Ryan Brett added a hit and three runs scored.
The Hot Rods wrap up the series, and the six-game road trip, tonight at 6:05 p.m. CDT with righty Jake Floethe (10-3, 3.06) starting against Loons right-hander Arismeny Ozoria (8-6, 4.47).
