Western Kentucky will play the first of three games on its Costa Rican foreign tour Tuesday afternoon against Laurentian University. The Hilltoppers and Voyageurs are meeting at BN Arena in the nation’s capital city of San Jose.

This will mark the first time WKU’s 2017-18 team takes the court against another opponent. The Toppers practiced 10 times in Bowling Green before arriving in Costa Rica on Monday afternoon.

WKU coach Rick Stansbury took a squad of 11 players with him on the preseason trip: Lamonte Bearden, Jordan Brangers, Dwight Coleby, Moustapha Diagne, Taveion Hollingsworth, Justin Johnson, Tyler Miller, Marek Nelson, Jake Ohmer, Jared Savage and Darius Thompson.

Diagne, however, will be unable to play in any of WKU’s three exhibition games this week. The redshirt sophomore forward has not yet been cleared by the NCAA to participate in games, though he was able to practice with the Hilltoppers over the last two weeks and make the trip to Costa Rica.

Stansbury is going with a starting lineup of the guards Bearden, Brangers and Thompson and forwards Coleby and Johnson.

Johnson rejoined the basketball program Sunday after spending the offseason working out and practicing with WKU’s football team.
